Evan Marriott has a passion for building thingsand exploring how they function. “As a child, I loved tinkering and figuring out the mechanics behind objects, which sparked my interest in engineering.”
The Mechanical Engineering student completed his first work term as aProcess Improvement Engineer Internwith Tony’s Meats.“At Tony’s, my work focused on daily scheduling, tracking efficiency, and streamlining costing processes. These projects aimed to improve production efficiency, enabling the company to grow, attract more customers, and boost overall production capabilities,” he says.
“Tony’s was been incredibly supportive of my professional development. I had more autonomy than in any of my previous roles, allowing me to solve problems creatively and think outside the box,” he says, “I significantly improved my communication skills; regularly interacting with employees at all levels, from managers and supervisors to office staff and owners.”
Evan’s confidence in his abilities grew throughout the work term. “I learned that I excel in leadership,” he says. “This work term has also shown me that I’m capable of effectively communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.”
“The team at Tony’s is exceptional; they made me feel like part of the family. Everyone is highly knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to lend a hand when needed. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend working at Tony’s.”
“Despite having no prior work experience or experience in the meat industry, Evan quickly adapted to the role. His proactive nature and motivation added substantial value to the company,” says Evan’s supervisor, Industrial Engineer Harmit Patel. “He confidently asked questions, shared thoughtful insights on various issues, and contributed positively to the work culture.”
Overall, Evan's performance exceeded expectations, and we look forward to his continued growth and potential return in future work terms.
“The Ҵý Co-op program is a great platform for students and employers. It provides students with valuable hands-on experience while allowing employers to discover and nurture emerging talent,” he says. “I can personally attest to its benefits, as I joined my company through the co-op program. Having progressed in my career, I can now hire from the same program, continuing the cycle of growth and opportunity.”
What’s next for Evan? “My ultimate goal is to work in the aerospace industry and one day even go to space. I’m eager to use my skills to contribute to space exploration and technology. I’m excited to continue growing as an engineer and pursuing opportunities in aerospace and beyond.”
