The findings question conventional thinking on the genetic origins of breast cancer, which could influence early cancer detection methods. The study, published today in Nature, discovered that at least 3% of normal cells from breast tissue in 49 healthy women contain a gain or loss of chromosomes, a condition known as aneuploidy, and that they expand and accumulate with age. This poses questions for our understanding of "normal" tissues, according to principal investigator Nicholas Navin, Ph.D., chair of Systems Biology. /articles//images/uploads/2024/11/19/673ce1ea948ce_NicholasNavin.jpg University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Roswell Park Experts to Showcase Groundbreaking Hematology Research at 66th ASH Annual Meeting /articles/roswell-park-experts-to-showcase-groundbreaking-hematology-research-at-66th-ash-annual-meeting/?sc=c6299 /articles/roswell-park-experts-to-showcase-groundbreaking-hematology-research-at-66th-ash-annual-meeting/?sc=c6299 Tue, 19 Nov 2024 15:35:34 EST Blood,Cancer,Healthcare,Medical Meetings,Scientific Meetings Medical News Research Results Roswell Park experts representing various specialties will highlight innovative research and advancements in hematology and hematologic cancers at the 66th annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), to be held December 7-10 in San Diego, California.
