Recently, Wilson's team investigated the evolution of a protein that plays a crucial role in H5N1's ability to transmit between species. Their analysis found that the protein is susceptible to a mutation that could help the virus attach to human cells, potentially increasing the risk of human transmission. The findings - published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences - underscore the need for ongoing monitoring of H5N1's evolution. /articles//images/uploads/2025/04/24/680a6e9ae78ee_AdobeStock102957901.jpeg SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Probiotics Derived From People Show Promise in Poultry /articles/probiotics-derived-from-people-show-promise-in-poultry/?sc=c6294 /articles/probiotics-derived-from-people-show-promise-in-poultry/?sc=c6294 Tue, 15 Apr 2025 17:30:52 EST FASEB channel,Birds,Chemistry,Digestive Disorders,Healthcare,Microbiome,FASEB channel Science News Research Results Beneficial bacteria could enhance chickens' health and reduce infection risk American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) New Study Finds Research Bias in the World of Fancy Birds /articles/new-study-finds-research-bias-in-the-world-of-fancy-birds/?sc=c6294 /articles/new-study-finds-research-bias-in-the-world-of-fancy-birds/?sc=c6294 Mon, 14 Apr 2025 08:00:19 EST All Journal ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½,Birds,Environmental Science,Nature,Wildlife Science News Research Results <img src="/legacy/image.php?image=/images/uploads/2025/04/11/67f96d5853066_ImageFromPaper.png&width=100&height=150" alt="ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ image" />In the newly published study, "Six-decade research bias towards fancy and familiar bird species," a team of researchers studied nearly 300 North American species of passerines and near-passerines. /articles//images/uploads/2025/04/11/67f96d5853066_ImageFromPaper.png,/images/uploads/2025/04/11/67f972a78a38d_JOtten-facultyexpert-web.jpg Cornell College Pinning Down the Process of West Nile Virus Transmission /articles/pinning-down-the-process-of-west-nile-virus-transmission/?sc=c6294 /articles/pinning-down-the-process-of-west-nile-virus-transmission/?sc=c6294 Wed, 02 Apr 2025 19:45:07 EST Birds,Healthcare,Infectious Diseases,Public Health,West Nile Virus,Top Hit Stories Medical News Research Results A federally funded project analyzing temperature, light pollution, and bird and mosquito abundance aims to pin down how these and other factors affect West Nile virus transmission.
