News — WASHINGTON, D.C. – The is pleased to announce its Washington, D.C., LEGCON 2025 starting today at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The LEGCON 2025 fly-in will bring together more than 500 attendees from across the country to meet with members of Congress to discuss critical issues related to the medical specialty of anesthesiology and their patients.

Each year, anesthesiologist advocates and change-makers travel to Washington, D.C., for meetings to educate policymakers about important issues facing the specialty and patients. This year, the focus will be on preserving the highest standards of anesthesia care for patients in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), holding health insurance companies accountable for putting their profits over patients, and supporting permanent reform to the broken Medicare physician payment system, also known as a “Doc Fix,” through the addition of a mandatory, annual inflation update to the payment formula.

“I’m looking forward, as I do every year, to joining my fellow anesthesiologists to put the full force of the specialty behind preserving physician-led care in the VA, holding big insurance accountable, as well as addressing regulations and payment issues that continue to arise,” said ASA President Donald E. Arnold, M.D., FACHE, FASA.

Speakers at LEGCON 2025 include bipartisan lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate who serve on committees that evaluate issues critical to the specialty. Lawmakers who are anticipated to speak at LEGCON 2025 include Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03), Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02), Congressman Herb Conaway, M.D. (NJ-03), Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (TX-24), Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) and Congresswoman Julie Johnson (TX-32).  Virginia State Senator Mamie Locke and Arizona State Representative Beverly Pingerelli will also be receiving the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Excellence in Government Award.
